A new chronograph for the 130th anniversary of the birth.
Tazio Nuvolari, a man of his time but also a figure who in the world of sport still remains the example of a passion that goes beyond the limits of fatigue, suffering and fate, always aiming for the goal of excellence.
This was the main characteristic that Eberhard & Co. saw in the Mantuan champion when, exactly thirty years ago, in 1992, they wanted to dedicate a collection of automotive-style timepieces to him, an intuition that led to the creation of a very loved by fans of fine watchmaking and engines.
Tazio Nuvolari was born in 1892, only a handful of years after the foundation of Eberhard & Co., and therefore lived the pioneering era of car racing, that period between the 1920s and 1940s in which racing was raced at unprecedented speeds even on dirt roads, on vehicles without any safety device. Of this epic Nuvolari was the ruler, at the cost of enormous sacrifices and personal renunciations but thus laying the foundations of a legend.
On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of his birth and the 90th anniversary of that legendary 1932, which became his golden year, in which he did nothing but collect victories in races and championships aboard the 8-cylinder Alfa Romeos, Eberhard & Co. has created a new chronograph dedicated to him.
The new Nuvolari brings together all the salient elements of the collection and many innovative details in the new case with an unprecedented size of 41 mm.
The dial amazes for its legibility, thanks to the white Arabic numerals that stand out against the black background enriched by a helical workmanship, the classic carapace that frames the initials of the champion is inevitable. The position of the two counters at 12 and 6 is maintained, but for the first time the sportier option of white counters is offered alongside the traditional black version.
The tachymeter scale on the rehaut contains a new detail in yellow, the color of the sweater that Nuvolari always wore in competition, his “lucky charm” together with the turtle-shaped brooch given to him by Gabriele D’Annunzio. The yellow color is also picked up on the tip of the chronograph seconds hand. The captivating motoring reference of the “rosette” workmanship on the bezel and caseback remains unchanged. Secured by 8 screws, the back is available in both closed and “vitré” versions.
The latter allows a view of the automatic movement, personalized by the gold reproduction of the historic Alfa Romeo Tipo 12/C, the same one with which the great driver won so many victories, under which the dates 1892-2022 have been inserted, commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the pilot’s birth.
Available with gray vintage-effect leather strap with yellow stitching, starting from December at Eberhard & Co Authorized Dealers.
