Utilitarian objects for ritual practices.
HoperAperta, the project that combines Art, Architecture and Craftsmanship, now in its fifth edition, arrives at the Fabbrica del Vapore for Milan Design Week 2023 with the ESPRIT MAGICIEN exhibition.
In the large Sala della Cisterna, works and objects will be exhibited that reinterpret the theme of the object/figure, as explained by the curators of the exhibition Patrizia Catalano and Maurizio Barberis: “The utility of an object is determined by its metaphysical connotations, by the magic of a form understood as a figure, a connection between what cannot be represented and its appearance/appear in the world of things. ESPRIT MAGICIEN aims to be a collection of objects whose permanence over time (ephemeral or lasting), its possibility of becoming part of the collective memory of an era, depends exclusively on the quality of its auratic dimension. Giving a figure means giving another aspect to things, changing their visibility, introducing the heterogeneous, the other, i.e. time. In this sense, a chair or a photograph, a painting or a vase, are semantically homologated by a transitive but not material function, or by the condition of ‘absolute ephemeral’ which manifests itself by filling them with a shared meaning, beyond their material condition”.
The exhibition will propose a discussion on these themes between the invited artists and architects: Fabio Maria Alecci and Gianluca Esposito, Maurizio Barberis, Armando Bruno and Alberto Torres, Dorian X, Alfonso Femia, Cristina Fiorenza, Duccio Grassi, Alessandro Melis with Fadhil Fadhil and Monica Battistoni, NùeVù, Aldo Parisotto, Steve Piccolo, Odilia Prisco, Sonia Ros, Davide Valoppi, Alberto Vannetti, Carmelo Zappulla.
ESPRIT MAGICIEN also wants to be theatrical, show, emotion. For this reason, an important reality from the Milanese entertainment world will be involved.
The Compagnia Teatro Colla, which will showcase the puppets made in 1960 for the representation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest (translated for the occasion by Salvatore Quasimodo) through a special multimedia installation. In collaboration with Steve Piccolo, Martina Barberis Casagrande, Henry Thoreau. Furthermore, a special light installation by Antonangeli, curated by Gianfranco Marabese, positioning itself in the center of the Cistern will create a scenography of aerial light, a tribute to the spatialism of Lucio Fontana.
The ESPRIT MAGICIEN works were created with the participation of Antonageli, Attico Interni, Casalgrande Padana, Cl Italia, Cromonichel, Marmi Faedo, Materica, Nic Design, Noumena, Officine Tamborrino, Sprech, Zeus companies that represent excellence in manufacturing and in the finishing of materials such as metal, stone, marble, Plexiglas, and which operate with a sustainable approach to enhance the environment in which they operate.
