Ferruccio Lamborghini
Born in 1916 under the sign of Taurus, hence the logo of his famous cars, Ferruccio Lamborghini was first and foremost a clever entrepreneur. His fortune, financially speaking, came to him in the postwar period when, with great farsightedness, he founded his tractor factory in Italy, a country that certainly had plenty of land in need of farming. Only in 1963 did the “Lamborghini Automobile” story begin when, after buying a large plot of land in Sant’Agata Bolognese, he built a spacious, light-filled factory that was the last word in modernity and quite the opposite of anything that had ever existed previously. And yet Lamborghini’s truly intuitive move was to add style and luxury to his immensely powerful supercars, right from the very first models that went into production.
Great stories always carry an element of legend. Apparently, he conceived the idea of creating sports cars after a discussion with his friend, Enzo Ferrari, in which Lamborghini complained about the poorly performing friction on the Ferraris he had owned until then. Naturally, the “Drake” snapped back that his cars worked perfectly well and that Lamborghini was only capable of driving tractors. Wounded in his pride, and possibly influenced by his birth sign, Lamborghini then decided to create the brand that was to become a world famous icon of power and luxury. It is in perfect Lamborghini style, and with a slightly buccaneering spirit, that the Veneno has been presented, the latest creation of the Automobile company in Sant’Agata. A unique car, in every sense of the word, since the project has contemplated a total run of three pieces with the cost of each car fixed at three million six hundred thousand Euros. They were sold immediately, to the great disappointment of many enthusiasts who declared they were ready to write out a cheque with several zeros in order to possess one of them.
Pressed by so many requests, the House of the Bull announced that production would start on another nine Veneno Roadsters, whose cost would be 10% higher than that of the Veneno. Emotions, for those who have put aside the necessary sum to buy one, are comprised in the price. A powerful 6.5 litre V12 engine able to generate 750 horse power will drive this combo of luxury and technology very fast indeed.
To enable those who have never driven a Formula 1 car to use it, here are manual transmission ISR gearbox, permanent four wheel drive transmission and push rod suspension for guaranteed stability. All in a reduced weight of just 1,450 kilograms.
With the customary mind-blowing performance: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h. Its class and design are impeccable, down to the smallest detail, making this a car that leaves you speechless even when the engine is turned off. Lamborghini stands for power, but above all for style. Once inside, the Veneno offers an acceptable level of comfort for a vehicle that could compete with any Formula 1 racing car.
In Lamborghini, a team of fifty craftsmen are engaged exclusively on car interiors, creating models that are unique and highly personalized. It is this same focus on luxury and design that has led Lamborghini researchers to come up with a material called “Forged Composite”, which is widely used on the latest supercar presented by the House of the Bull.
This carbon fibre allows for excellent performance and reduced fuel consumption, along with an enjoyable driving experience in all conditions. The carbon fibre fabric “CarbonSkin” clads the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner.
“CarbonSkin” is soaked in a very special resin that keeps it soft and malleable. At the latest “Automotive Week” in Monterey, California, Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., stated: “Half a century ago, Ferruccio Lamborghini was a man who dreamed of creating the most luxurious sports cars in the world. We have paid a tribute to his dream and vision in Monterey by showcasing our most recent models fitted with V12 engines, together with his first creation, the 350 GTV. Like the many Lamborghini enthusiasts who have joined us here, we enthusiastically look forward to the future and whatever extraordinary developments lie ahead in the next half century.”
