Serena Luxury Mosaic is one of the main exponents of the traditional art and luxury handicraft of Italian blown glass.

The Serena family, already one of the favourite suppliers of the Italian princely families, is among the first three families in Murano to make the Venetian island famous across the world. In 1527, brothers Filippo and Bernardo Serena invent a new glassmaking technique and obtain the exclusive right to produce it for 10 years. It is a decorative technique based on delicate and intricate latticework, called filigree, which is one of Murano’s most fascinating products of the Renaissance.

I was fascinated by the connection between ancient traditions and skilful artisanal techniques”, says Michelangelo Serena about the start of his project, which led him to the creation of Serena Luxury Mosaic in 2015: the goal is to create a new expressive medium that, for the first time in history, combines Murano blown glass and artistic mosaic. “My commitment and my passion lie in developing a familiar project, keeping its creative roots alive and combining it with a more contemporary creativity”, emphasizes Michelangelo Serena. “The result is always a masterpiece whose details are highlighted by the combination of two of the most exclusive and ancient Italian arts”.

Serena Luxury Mosaic has different creative lines, combining different elegant and precious materials, original shapes and practicality:

  • Design Collection: a contemporary line, it is the result of many experiments and ensures the transparency of the mosaic on the glass and the highest harmony of shapes and colours;
  • Art Collection: a more classic line featuring figurative mosaic, based on past icons reinterpreted according to Serena Luxury Mosaic’s masterful techniques, such as the most famous vase in Murano history, “The Veronese”, covered in more than one thousand tiles. A homage to the history of art;
  • Tableware Collection: a series of tableware pieces, customised according to each client’s needs. “Practical” masterpieces, entirely food-safe;
  • Light Collection: this collection has been created in order to enhance the combination of light, blown glass and gold mosaic, creating masterpieces with steel structures covered in 24-carat gold.
