In the past few days, all eyes were on Los Angeles, both for the Academy Awards opening ceremony and Tom Ford’s runway show.
Loads of 1990s glam and outfits that marked the history of Tom Ford’s successes in Italy as Gucci’s creative director, all infused with a style that is “chic, possibly slightly stoned and very sensual”.
Tom Ford drew inspiration from a 1967 photo by Bob Richardson where baron Alexis De Waldner and Donna Mitchell share a cigarette, or a joint. “For me it’s very L.A.”, the designer said about the picture, as he staged super sexy dresses in purple or light blue velvet paired with satin shirts, spotted jackets, tops and skirts, including midi styles in patchwork denim with flared hems.
Tom Ford’s woman prefers casual day outfits featuring joggers on asymmetrical tops and open-toe shoes with skyscraper heels and tonal socks. At night, though, she turns femme fatale in sensual lace or semi-sheer dresses, adorned with crystals and tied by black bows that create a drop neckline, or standing out for bold side slits.
The show ended on notes from Killing Me Softly by Fugees, another iconic memory of the ‘90s, with Bella Hadid in a marvelous bridal dress.
I might be feeling particularly sentimental this season, and it’s actually the first time that I have closed my show with a bridal look
