Uli Weber’s shots exhibition at Bocconi University

On display is the Goodwood Revival historic car competition.

At Bocconi University, temple of economics and finance, land the emotions and the power of an instant. This is the sense of the union between the classrooms in via Sarfatti and the images of Uli Weber, the German photographer who, from 6th July to 31st October 2023, is exhibiting the work he created during the historic Goodwood Revival races, with a boutique anthology arriving in the university foyer.

The exhibition

The initiative is part of the rich calendar of MIA Photo Fair, the most important Italian fair dedicated to photography, at a historical moment when this art is becoming one of the most relevant Milan cultural drivers. Organized by the Parma Fairs, the exposure of Uli Weber at Bocconi constitutes a preview of the exhibition that the artist will take on tour, first to the historic hall of Automotoretrò in February 2024 and from 2th to 10th March in Parma and then in the motor valley, as part of the spring edition of Mercanteinfiera, international appointment of signature design, art and vintage collecting.

Speed, energy, kinetic tension, performance and glances: these are the ingredients of the 10 works that Weber chose for the exhibition spaces on Sarfatti Street. These are shots taken at the Goodwood estate in the West Sussex, not far from London. Between 1930 and 1966, together with Silverstone, this was the temple of sports racing and today those glories are commemorated every September with a series of events featuring vintage cars and clothing. Weber wanted to tell the story of the fascination of motor racing, the prestige of those times that always renew excitement, suspense, daring and the struggle with the chrono, with a hint of nostalgia for an era of sophisticated elegance.

Uli Weber, the story

Uli Weber comes from Ulm, in Germany, the hometown of Albert Einstein, and has lived in London most of his life. But the winning formula of his art also “speaks” a lot of Italian: Weber has, in fact, learned in the Belpaese (where he studied) his profound ability to recognize dramatic intensity through a language that holds together mystery, romance and glamour.

Goodwood Revival photographs in exposure are taken from the book by Uli Weber published by Skira, whose preface is written by the Duke of Richmond, the very creator of the festival and owner of the estate where the legendary circuit is based, who called it “a feast for the eyes, a book that has become part of the long history of racing at Goodwood”. “His eye for detail”, Duke says, “his ability to capture the special moment in the drama, brought Revival to life as no one else had been able to do before”.
