An exhibition celebrates the image-maker who has written some of the most important pages of the history of image and advertising

Thanks to his vision he helped create icons like Grace Jones, developed important advertising campaigns for large car manufacturers, cars and photographic films, sneakers, drinks, department stores and blue jeans. He even designed and directed the parade for the bicentennial of the French Revolution on the Champs Elyseés. He has been a creative director and a contributor for important magazines, such as Esquire. And then he imagined the shutters of a building opened by many different women united by a single feeling towards their respective men. One after the other they exclaimed: “Egoiste!” It was the campaign of the eponymous perfume launched by Chanel in 1990, which marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration with the French fashion house. Two years later, for the launch of Coco, the creative Jean Paul Goude transformed a very young Vanessa Paradis into a splendid bird in his aviary. Another female icon was born. Later, many other campaigns were created for the French maison, which now decided to open the exhibition “In Goude we trust” by Jean Paul Goude. The witty and irreverent pun in the title certainly fits the spirit of its author curator, who says about the French fashion house: “We share the love for a job well done, I hope, without taking ourselves too seriously, and always with a touch of humor.” Indeed, without his passion and, especially, his humor, Goude would not be one of the greatest contemporary creative geniuses.
