In Switzerland, the project of the longest ice rink in the world

A long strip of land, the area of the airfield of Ambri Piotta in the Leventina Valley in High Ticino, is about to be transformed into an hypermodern and almost unique ice rink, an opportunity of re-launch for development of Leventina and of upgrading of the tourist attractiveness in the entire region. The pioneering project bears the acronym “SPAP” Suisse Projets Ambri Piotta, an idea born from architect Marco Giussani of Suisse Projets and which becomes an “attractor, a sort of touristic-commercial catalyst capable of characterizing the region  increasing its user base” as the Suisse Projets writes, with offices in Mezzovico and Bironico, in the Region of the Canton Ticino, Switzerland. Basically, the runway of the airport of Ambri will be turned in the longest skating rink in the world, which will also become the set of important events along the winter period: 10 000 sqm. of artificial ice thanks to refrigerants carpets laid on the asphalt for a length of one kilometer, with 10,000 sqm of trenches and exhibition areas for 18.000 sqm.

Marathon skating, cross dog sledding, curling, the longest snow slide rafts in the world for Christmas market and skating are just some of the events that SPAP could accommodate, in the interest of the entire region, “A project able to integrate not only in the morphology of the landscape but also in the culture and tradition of the place”as the architect Marco Giussani says, the same who designed the Splash and Spa Rivera-Monteceneri (Switzerland).
